INKHEAD SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2016
Write a story of not more than 1,000 words under one of the following titles (songs of David Bowie):-
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)
The Goblin Battle
Looking for Lester
God Knows I’m Good
We will pick one overall winner of the competition who will receive £100, a full A4 page critique of their story, highlighting its strengths and suggestions to improve it and eight runners-up (2 in each age category) will also receive a full critique and a £25 book token.
Winners and Highly Commended stories will be published in our next anthology.
Entry fee is £5.
The deadline is midnight on May 10th, 2016
How to enter
Write or type your story of no more than 1,000 words under one of the titles above
On a separate sheet write or type your name, age, address, email address and story title. YOUR NAME SHOULD NOT APPEAR ANYWHERE ON YOUR STORY.
Submit your story:
a. by post to Inkhead Story Competition, 56 Love Lane, London SE25 4NG along with a £5 entry fee – as a cheque made payable to inkhead or
b. by emailing your story to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
and pay the £5 by paypal.(see paypal button further down the page) or direct.
If you would also like a detailed critique of your story we offer an A4 page of constructive criticism, telling you what works and what could be improved.
This service costs an extra £15, which can be added to your entry fee.
Once we have received payment, we will confirm via email that you have requested this service and send you the critique within two weeks of receiving your story.
What happens next?
What happens next?
The stories will be read by the inkhead team and the highly commended stories will be sent to Mike Revell, this year’s judge.
Once Mike has chosen the best stories for each age category we will contact the winners as well as the writers whose stories we feel showed promise.
The winners will be announced at the end of June, 2016 on our website and we will write/email all the winners and highly commended entries.
Inkhead will produce an anthology of the winning and highly commended stories, which will be available from October 2016.
Your work must be your own
You must send (or email) your story with your entry fee
The story must be no longer than 1,000 words.
You can enter as many stories as you like (along with the entry fee).
The competition is open to anyone in the world but entries must be in English.
You must specify your age on a separate sheet (along with your name and address and story title).
The age categories are:
- Category 1 – 7 to 9 year olds
- Category 2 – 10 to 12 year olds
- Category 3 – 13 to 14 year olds
- Category 4 – 15 to 16 year olds
Schools, colleges or youth clubs can send up to 10 stories for £20, 40 stories for £30 and 60 stories for £40. Download the school's submission form below. (Separate sheet attached).
