In Person/ Classroom Courses

The Old Library, 14 to 16 Knight’s Hill, West Norwood, SE27 0HY

11+ Comprehension and Creative writing. Ages 9 to 11.

Date and time: July 12th to 14th. 9:30am to 12:30pm.

The group will be given two 11+ papers. Our experienced tutors will take them through the comprehension questions, step by step, and explain what the examiners are looking for in their answers. We will discuss the passage and then give them a ‘mock’ exam on the papers we have discussed. After a break, we will then ask them to mark their own papers by giving them the ‘model’ answers.
After lunch, we will look at the creative writing questions in each paper. They will choose which question they want to answer and we will give them crib sheets to show how to plan their stories or accounts. They will be given 30 minutes to write the exam and after another short break, we will ask them to read out their answers and give encouraging feedback on what they have done and what they could have included. Our aim is to give the group confidence in their ability to sit the 11+ exams and a clear idea of the exam techniques which will help them to gain optimum marks.

Creative writing/plotting a story. Ages 7 to 8.

Date and Time: July 27th to 29th. 9:30 to 12:30pm.

We will show the group through the 6 basic plot shapes and think up a story around each ‘shape’ together. The students will then be encouraged to write their own stories around one of the plots. This will help them to understand how to sequence a story. We will play word games and have regular breaks between spells of writing.
