Animal Farm. Writing and Comprehension course. 11 to 13 years – April 6th to 9th : 10:45am to 12:00pm

In this workshop, we will look at George Orwell’s timeless allegorical novel Animal Farm, a political fable which follows a group of farmyard animals in their quest for power.

The group will be shown clips from the 1954 animation, analyse extracts from the book, complete comprehension tasks, and be given writing prompts connected to the novel. Lively discussion will be encouraged as we delve into the main themes of the book and see how the author presents his ideas through fiction with a specific focus on how allegory works. The course will inspire them (we hope) to read the rest of this classic book themselves and develop an understanding of the links between literature and social context.
